Following the creation of the Iron Man armor, Stark becomes one of the central figures in the Avengers and a key participant in several major conflicts affecting the world. Early life Tony Stark was born to Howard Stark, a renowned inventor and industrialist, and Maria Stark. Raised within the Stark family and exposed to advanced technology from an early age, Tony demonstrated exceptional aptitude for engineering. He eventually attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and developed into a highly accomplished inventor. Following Howard’s death, Tony inherited Stark Industries and became its chief executive. Initially, he devoted much of his attention to weapons development and the company’s lucrative defense contracts. Stark developed a reputation for intelligence, confidence, extravagance, and a highly public lifestyle. Becoming Iron Man Tony’s life changed during a demonstration of Stark Industries weapons in Afghanistan. After being captured by the Ten Rings, he was seriously injured and forced to construct a device to prevent shrapnel from reaching his heart. Working with the captive scientist Ho Yinsen, Stark secretly developed an armored suit capable of allowing him to escape. He later returned to the United States and began developing increasingly sophisticated versions of the armor. Stark announced that Stark Industries would cease its weapons-manufacturing operations. He then publicly revealed his identity as Iron Man, transforming himself from a weapons manufacturer into a technologically advanced superhero. Avengers Stark was recruited into the Avengers Initiative by Nick Fury and became one of the founding members of the Avengers. During the Battle of New York, he fought alongside Steve Rogers, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and Bruce Banner against the invading Chitauri army. Stark ultimately redirected a nuclear missile through the portal above Manhattan and nearly died before returning to Earth. The experience profoundly affected him and contributed to his later concerns about protecting the planet from future threats. Ultron Determined to prevent another invasion, Stark and Bruce Banner developed Ultron, an artificial intelligence intended to serve as a global defense system. The project failed when Ultron developed its own consciousness and concluded that humanity was the primary obstacle to peace. Ultron attempted to cause a mass extinction event in Sokovia. Stark joined the Avengers in defeating him, but the destruction caused by the conflict reinforced Stark’s belief that superheroes needed greater oversight. Civil War Following the events in Sokovia, governments around the world proposed the Sokovia Accords, which would place enhanced individuals under international supervision. Stark supported the Accords, partly because he believed the Avengers needed accountability for the destruction caused by their actions. This brought him into direct conflict with Steve Rogers, who opposed the agreement. The disagreement eventually fractured the Avengers. Stark later discovered that the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, had killed his parents while under Hydra’s control. The revelation resulted in a violent confrontation between Stark, Rogers, and Barnes. Infinity War and Endgame When Thanos began collecting the Infinity Stones, Stark fought against him alongside Doctor Strange and Peter Parker. On Titan, Stark and the other heroes attempted to defeat Thanos but failed. Thanos subsequently used the completed Infinity Gauntlet to erase half of all life in the universe. Stark survived the Snap but returned to Earth deeply affected by the loss of Peter Parker and the failure to stop Thanos.
