GREAT WHITE SHARK BREACH 💥🦈 Weeks spent documenting great white sharks along Australia’s east coast have led to witnessing exhilarating moments like this. When baitfish gather into a dense bait ball, they create one of the ocean’s most dramatic hunting spectacles. Here you can see a white shark predating on an enormous school of eastern Australian salmon. White sharks can accelerate from below or behind in explosive bursts of speed, reaching over 40 km/h. In the final few metres before impact, the shark rolls its eyes backwards, protecting them within the eye socket during the strike. Although this briefly limits their vision, it shields one of their most vulnerable organs as they smash through the tightly packed school. During this shark’s predation attempt, it launched into an explosive breach! 💥 We are incredibly grateful to have spent the past few weeks observing dozens of great white sharks and documenting behaviour like this.
