1. You don’t have to be single to go solo travelling. You can be in a happy, healthy relationship and still want to go out and experience the world on your own. 2. Hostels are full of people from different walks of life, and yes, some will try to hit on you. Just because you’re travelling alone doesn’t mean you’re single or available. Don’t be afraid to stand your ground, set boundaries and make it clear you’re not interested. You don’t owe anyone your attention just to be polite. 3. You can go out, socialise, make friends and have fun without disrespecting your relationship. Being in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the social side of backpacking. It’s about knowing your own boundaries and sticking to them. 4. You’re going to miss him, and that’s okay. There will be moments where you see something incredible and wish he was standing right next to you. But you can miss someone and still be exactly where you’re meant to be. 5. Don’t feel guilty for making memories without him. You’re allowed to have experiences that are entirely your own. One day you’ll have SO many stories to tell each other, and I think that’s pretty special. 6. You don’t have to participate in the hostel party lifestyle to make friends. You can still meet amazing people through day trips, hikes, gyms, cafés and random conversations. Find people who enjoy the same things as you rather than feeling pressured to fit in. 7. Being independent doesn’t mean you love your partner any less. If anything, I think there’s something really special about two people being able to chase their own goals while still choosing each other. 8. Some days you’re going to feel lonely, even when you’re surrounded by people. Especially when you’re used to having your favourite person beside you. Give yourself time to adjust. You don’t need to be making friends or doing something exciting every second of the day. 9. The right person will want to see you grow, even when that means being apart for a little while. A relationship shouldn’t mean putting your dreams on hold. You can build a future together while still working on becoming the person you want to be. 10. Don’t forget why you wanted to do this in the first place. There will be uncomfortable moments, homesick days and times you question yourself. But there’s also so much confidence to be gained from figuring things out on your own. I’m only at the beginning of my 4 months of travelling, and I’ve already realised how many emotions can exist at once. I can miss my boyfriend like crazy, love the life we’re building back home AND still be so excited for everything I’m about to experience. You can love someone wholeheartedly and still have a whole world of your own to explore. 🤍 #solotravel #girlstravel #backpacking #solofemaletravel #coupleswhotravel
