Republican Missouri Congressman Sam Graves had asked the judge for a four year sentence, while court records say Jawahar had been in the U.S. illegally since 2005. Prosecutors also said Jawahar paid political consulting firm Axiom Strategies $10,000 to help coordinate support letters before sentencing. According to KCTV, Graves’ campaign has paid Axiom $1.77 million since 2006.
