I've always maintained that if people had to actually pay taxes out of hand, they'd be lower. in the uk, they have a 20% VAT (value added tax) already included in the advertised price. that compares to an 8+% sales tax rate in the states. but it's 'hidden'

Also not to be out of touch but if you DO have a decent chunk of savings, some of the savings accounts offer incentives to keep a certain amount in the account for a few months. We have the capital one 360 savings and it’s been great.
