I allowed my kids to stay home as long as they wanted. They didn’t have to pay rent *IF* they were in college. They didn’t leave home until 25 & 27. They are now thriving as an RN and fire fighter-paramedic

when my 27 year old son and his wife moved in with us we asked for them to help with yard work and around the house and pitch in for food, eventually because of the economy I talked to my son and he started giving me rent money to help but I made sure they were able to save and they now have their own place and my son says he is extremely thankful for everything we did for them

I had planned to have my sons pay rent and I was going to put it away for when they were ready to move out. Then they would have moving money.

My kids paid rent as soon as they worked. They never paid rent if in education neither college or university .I’m completely with you 👑🥰

My parents never charged me rent even after 18. But there were exceptions. College work and once I was married we moved in for 6 months to save to buy our home. As long as we were actively working, saving and looking for a home they didn’t charge us. I would do the same for my child, or charge a small amount but put it in a savings for them later

I think it depends on the parents & their intentions, not everyone has parents with good intentions unfortunately. I think it watever works best for your family. I did not charge my 3 adult kids rent but we came up with a plan for them to save to buy a home with that money they saved by not charging them rent. my daughter the oldest was able to buy her 1st home at 23.

my sister in law did that! started when my nephew was a teen...when hevrurned 21...he had a down payment for a house! she matched his savings

And I know you arent charging him his entire check. Charging a small amount, like you said, just teaches them how the real world works. And you are an amazing mom so people who know you know that you aren't doing it to take advantage of him and that you got his back and only have pure intentions with this plan. So haters need to shove it. ♥️
