@florida.servicedogs: This just shows even a professional dog trainer can make a mistake. Came home and one of the new dogs decided she wanted to try and fight our senior dog (also alpha of pack under me and my fiance) because she didn’t get to me first. Well I managed to successfully call them both off (both have good break and recall commands). Well I notice out of the corner of my eye the new dog going for one last little instigation nip and reached down grabbing her collar and turning her away putting my body between the two. Well looks like my senior had also noticed that attempt and went to correct her unfortunately getting my calf. Now a couple things to note; 1. My dogs do not fight till blood draw , 2. Rarely do I had to ever separate/break up a fight , 3. All my dogs have a break command and know it well. Do feelings get hurt and someone gets sensitive every now and again, yea, of course. Kids fight don’t they ? , 4. My senior is what we call a babysitter dog or an ideal correction dog. Meaning any time we bring in a new foster or training dog she’s the dog we use when we need a dog who can correct appropriate or teach good matters/adjust. 5. My senior DID NOT get reprimanded. This was not a dog error but a handlers/trainer error. One that simply could have been avoided and handled differently but after a long day and being tired mistakes got made and lessons got learned. #dog #dogbite #mistakeshappen #dogtrainer #DogTraining
