i’ll take it a step further. aang was using stereotype firebender moves with the blue dragon, the dragon that ties to sozin and his trauma with firebending. he’s accepting firebending into his life. zuko, he’s using unorthodox firebending moves with the red dragon, the dragon of roku, the dragon that represented the change and future of the fire nation

I like this theory but something that doesn’t support it is that fact that each animal companion dies after the avatar dies so that couldn’t have been avatar roku’s dragon since appa is alive
