what were the capsules made out of? if they were sugar pills and he consumed 8 liters of soda worth of sugar, that's not nothing if there's anything in the capsule that can be digested it will have an effect that isn't mental, but because the person is focusing on it specifically, they can figure out what the difference actually is while they're digesting

I think there was a study where an orthopedic surgeon studied that patients who got placebo knee surgery has similar pain relief to those who actually had surgery. (placebo patients only got an incision)
