As someone with a shitty childhood…I can affirm how weird it is feels to be around a loving family.

Hey, he’s actually looking inside himself and being honest about his emotions. THIS IS SIGNIFICANT. Many/most guys can’t/won’t do that.

My son had a girlfriend who joined our family for thanksgiving. She was very quiet and when asked if she was okay she said "I thought this only happened on tv". It broke my heart. I still think about it to this day.

I met my boyfriend’s family in 1989, when I was just a teenager. I found them overwhelming at first, they were loud, affectionate and completely unapologetic about how much they loved each other. I’d never experienced anything like it. I grew up in care, and I desperately wanted what they had.
I married my boyfriend , and on our wedding day I couldn’t wait to ask his parents if I could call them Mum and Dad. They said yes. They cried, I cried. They have helped heal my heart ❤️.
Mum sadly passed away, but Dad is still here. I’m 55 now, and 30+ years later I still absolutely love shouting “DAAAAAD!” the second I see him. 😂

tell him, "how about i cook you dinner and you come over? at least then we can have a heart to heart without anyone else seeing our emotions"

He’s also been vulnerable with you and that’s love for men.

Definitely give him time to figure this out. When you’ve grown up without love and suddenly are immersed in it, it can be overwhelming. This could be the start of something really special. A start for the two of you and a new beginning for him.

this guy is scared it's too good and he will lose it someday.
that's a real fear if you've never had it.
hear him out. at least he has the awareness to understand his fear is based on history and not the present.
I think he could be a keeper.

Wow…. The honesty and communication from this man, coming from a man in a family with little to no emotional support whatsoever, this was a hard text to send for him

I can tell you what you absolutely should not do. Don’t ever use what he told you against him or make jokes about it. He will never be open about anything again. You should feel blessed he trusts you enough to tell you that.
