Somewhere along the way, I stopped seeing his ADHD as the thing standing between us. I stopped looking at the hard moments and wondering, Why can’t he just… Instead, I started learning who he is. I started getting my hands on as many books as I could to learn more about what adhd really was. I listened to countless podcasts to gain different perspectives from people. I wanted to know everything because I wanted to show up for him the best I could. I wanted to understand him. Now I understand more. Like, The way his brain moves so quickly. The way he feels everything so deeply. The way he can be a million places at once. The way he can make me completely exhausted one minute and completely amazed the next. 😂❤️ ADHD has brought challenges we never expected. There are still days when I don’t know the right thing to say or do. There are still moments when I have to remind myself that this isn’t about him trying to be difficult for me as a parent it’s about him having a hard time. He is a kid learning how to navigate a world that often asks him to slow down, sit still, calm down, pay attention, and turn the volume down on a brain that doesn’t always work that way. I’m not raising him in spite of his ADHD. I’m raising him. All of him. The loud, curious, emotional, funny, impulsive, loving, incredible little boy that he is. And somewhere along the way, I realized I don’t want to spend my time trying to change who he is. I want to help him learn how to be who he is….and thrive. #adhdkids #adhdparenting #momblogger #adhdawareness
