Funny story to me… born and raised in a Bakersfield, never knew about this until a handful years back. I work for the largest oil producer in California, we purchased a small mom and pop lease, near there. It was a weekend and also my first time visiting the new lease, it was my job to go put eyes on that lease. On my travels, I noticed the river of tar. I thought a pipe busted and I have to find the leak. Since it was the weekend and early early morning, non of my supervisors answered their phone. By the time one called me back and let me know it was natural, I had already been walking back and forth for hours 😩…

When I was in oil tech at Taft High, we went there as one of our first field trips to learn about the rich oil history of our small town and we were told that sometimes when the oil is let out and makes that stream that little rodents that make there home in the fields get caught in the oil! 🤷🏽♀️😭 definitely go to the oil museum in Taft if you’d like to learn more about it!!

We use to live there. And our dogs would get out sometimes and go find that place. They would come home covered in it. Lol. Talk about a nightmare.
