#SAVETHISPOST Sweet&Sour Prawns #hongkongstyle #Sweetsour #prawns #chinese #Fakeaway FOR FRYING Vegetable oil FOR PRAWNS ~1 1/2 Handfuls king prawns(cleaned and deveined) ~1/4 tsp, salt ~1/2 tsp sugar(I used brown) ~1 tbsp soy sauce ~Black Pepper, to taste ~1/2 tsp egg, beaten. ~1/2-1 cup cornflour FOR SAUCE ~2 tbsp white vinegar ~3tbsp granulated sugar ~4 tbsp ketchup ~1/2 cup water ~1/2 tbsp Soy ~Ginger cut finely-2pinches(optional) ~1 tsp cornflour (mixed with 1tbsp of water) ~1 tbsp vegetable oil ~1 pineapple chopped(optional) ~1/2 small onion, cut into chunks ~1/4 red bell pepper, cut into chunks ~1/4 green bell pepper, cut into chunks Note: The sauce will be red but not bright red like the takeaways, as they will probably use food colouring to get that colour. Firstly, season your prawns then add the soy, salt sugar and black pepper. Mix well and then mix in one beaten egg . Put your prawns in your bowl of cornflour(make sure there’s enough that the mixture doesn’t become wet) and mix until completely coated. Start to heat your pan of oil (to light fry the prawns ). When the oil is hot. Start to place the prawns in the oil . Fry until lightly golden (but not completely cooked inside) and then remove them and place on a paper towel. (We’re going to refry later to make them extra crispy.) On to the sauce In another pan put in your oil and once hot, add your onions, ginger and bell peppers. Allow them to slightly sauté(but still crunchy) for 30seconds on a low to medium heat. Add and mix in your ketchup, sugar, vinegar and water.Allow it to reduce for 2-3 mins. When the sugar has dissolved and the sauce begins to bubble... add in your cornflour mix and stir until it begins to thicken (if you want it thicker add more cornflour)...at this point you can also add pineapples(optional). Then Turn off the fire Back to refrying! Put your frying oil back on the fire and when it’s hot refry the prawns until you get a#a deeper golden brown colour. (Around 3-4 mins on medium heat) Remove and drain the oil. Finally lightly turn your prawns in your sauce! Enjoy 😘
