To understand how Iraq and Kurdistan defeated D4esh, you have to look back at the summer of 2014. It was one of the darkest moments in modern history. In just a few weeks, D4esh swept across western and northern Iraq, capturing Mosul, taking massive stockpiles of heavy weapons, and advancing fast toward major cities. The situation looked hopeless, but the people on the ground refused to let their country fall. The Kurdish Peshmerga immediately stepped up in the north, locking down a frontline over 1,000 kilometers long. Even though they were heavily outgunned, Peshmerga fighters held critical mountain passes, protected key cities, and cut off D4esh supply lines. Meanwhile, across the rest of Iraq, tens of thousands of ordinary people—students, teachers, farmers—volunteered overnight. Joining forces with the Iraqi Army, Federal Police, and elite Counter Terrorism units, they began the brutal task of pushing back. They cleared city after city, winning back Ramadi and Fallujah in intense street-by-street fighting. The real turning point was the partnership between Baghdad and Erbil. Despite past political differences, Iraqi troops and Kurdish Peshmerga set up joint operations, shared intelligence, and coordinated their movements. This led to the Battle of Mosul in 2016—one of the toughest urban battles since World War II. Facing hidden tunnels, booby traps, and snipers, Iraqi and Kurdish forces fought block by block to free the city. By late 2017, through sheer determination and immense sacrifice, they completely dismantled D4esh's hold on the region. 🇮🇶✌️ #iraq #kurdistan #History #propaganda #fyp
