You need to be able to spend money on the things you enjoy. The idea that poor should be extremely frugal and devote every cent they have to their living situation is effectively telling them to lose a big part of themselves. Especially when they had worked harder than usual to afford that luxury.

this is common in China. we have a scholarship for poor students in unis but if ur found buying expensive things like an iphone 18 pro max，your scholarship will be cancelled.

I’ll just say one thing: the money to buy the cheapest iPhone 18 Pro Max can cover two years of tuition at China’s top university (less than $800 per semester). As for the rest, judge for yourself whether the Chinese government is doing the right thing

welfare checks aren't meant to support a family indefinitely, they're meant to help the families recover from poverty. they help with basic necessities so tue family can save up and invest on something like business, education,realty etc. for better opportunities. those checks are meant to help not to depend on to(unless the family consists of ppl who can't work like disabled and elderly ppl)

Pretty fair, it’s like asking your buddy for money to help pay your rent but then you take that money and spend it on fine dining. Welfare meant to be temporary assistance not permanent
