Steve was right but at the same time Eddie was feeling guilty from what happened to Chrissie, he felt like a coward by running away and so he wanted to redeem himself by trying to be a hero knowing damn well what the risk was...was it immature? Yes. But he wanted to prove himself, be strong, even thought Dustin already saw him as a very cool dude
