I’m pakeha with pakeha babies and I was lucky to spend time on a marae and in kapa haka. I always told myself I would teach my babies what reo Māori I knew. For a long time they didn’t know certain words in English and my whanau couldn’t understand why my kids wouldn’t respond to them sometimes and I would have to explain that they needed to ask in te reo Māori 🤣🤣 I was so damn proud of myself!!

This is a fantastic example for those learning te reo Māori - we would never diss someone who it trying to speak English, so keep trying, treat yourself how you would treat others.

I've practiced my teo Māori alphabet songs and colour songs. I am finally getting the pronounciations right I feel like and I've learned new words. Whanau and ka kite! 🥰💪
