25 years in business for myself. People always say, “Must be nice to make your own schedule.” The truth is, my schedule is dictated by everyone else. I can’t miss a phone call that could be three months of mortgage payments. I can’t ignore an email that could cover half of next year’s marketing budget. I stay up late making sure I’ve done the jobs of six different people, just to wake up the next morning and start all over again. I am the marketing team. I am the CFO. I am accounts receivable. I am the accountant. I am the scheduler, the laborer, the receptionist, and the list goes on and on. Making your own schedule sounds great. Until you realize owning the business means you’re always on it.
