I think because creating content is the input, whereas “influencing” is the output. Maybe if you set out to “influence” people this is apt, but most content creators are primarily just creative people making and sharing something they love. Other byproducts of what we do might be that people are entertained or informed, as well as just being “influenced” — that’s why most content creators prefer the term creator because that’s what we put in, not our relationship to the market. To each their own, but I would personally never introduce myself as an influencer, the same way an actor is an actor because their input is acting. They could call themselves “movie ticket sellers” but that’s a byproduct of their craft, not the craft itself.
