On November 24, 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 in Portland, Oregon, bound for Seattle. Shortly after takeoff, he handed a flight attendant a note. He claimed he had a bomb and demanded $200,000 in ransom, four parachutes, and a fuel truck waiting in Seattle. The aircraft landed in Seattle, where the passengers were released after the ransom and parachutes were delivered. But Cooper wasn't finished. He ordered the crew to fly toward Mexico City, with a refueling stop planned in Reno, Nevada. During the flight, Cooper instructed the remaining crew to stay in the cockpit. Then, somewhere over the Pacific Northwest, he opened the aircraft's rear stairs. And disappeared into the night. Investigators launched one of the largest manhunts in FBI history. They searched the forests and surrounding areas, questioned witnesses, examined evidence, and investigated thousands of possible suspects. But Cooper himself was never conclusively identified. In 1980, a young boy discovered $5,800 of the ransom money buried along the Columbia River. The serial numbers matched the ransom bills given to Cooper. It was the only confirmed portion of the ransom ever recovered. In 2016, after 45 years, the FBI officially ended its active investigation, saying that despite reviewing thousands of leads, Cooper's identity and fate remained unknown. Did he survive the jump? Did he disappear somewhere in the wilderness? Or was the money he took never recovered because something went wrong? More than five decades later, the mystery of D.B. Cooper remains unsolved. 🕵️‍♂️✈️ ⚠️ Disclaimer: This story is based on documented FBI records and historical accounts of the 1971 hijacking. “D.B. Cooper” was the name widely used by the media; the hijacker actually purchased his ticket under the name Dan Cooper. His ultimate fate has never been conclusively established. #tiktokgrowthchallenge #DBCooper #TrueCrime #UnsolvedMystery #CrimeHistory
