@lauren.digitalsales: Before my first maternity leave, I honestly didn’t give the financial side of it enough thought. I just assumed we’d make it work. Then my baby arrived and suddenly our income had dropped… but the bills obviously hadn’t! As the months went on, I found myself stretching everything as far as it would go and starting to think more and more about the day I’d eventually have to go back to work. And when that time actually started getting closer, I remember looking at my little girl and thinking… I’m not ready to leave you yet 😭 But financially, I didn’t have a choice. And THAT was the mistake.. I’d gone into maternity leave assuming maternity pay was just what I had to rely on. I had NO idea I could’ve been using the time to start learning something new and potentially create income from home. So when my second maternity leave came around, I knew I wasn’t going through it the same way. I started looking into things I could do from home around my girls… and eventually found digital products & Canva ✨ Think planners, guides, checklists, invitations, templates etc. I was a COMPLETE beginner 😂 so I started with ready-made digital products while I learnt how everything worked, then gradually started creating my own too. I only wanted an extra 200 a month to make maternity leave that little bit easier. Since then I’ve been able to - Extend my maternity leave. Massively reduce my working hours. AND create extra income from home in a way that fits around my girls 🙌 So if you’re pregnant right now or already on your leave.. please don’t make the mistake I did and assume your only options are maternity pay → struggle through → go back to work. You don’t need to have everything figured out before your baby arrives. But you CAN start learning. You can start exploring what’s out there.
