It's not secret that kids these days don't study. But this has something to do with the grading system. A kid who got 80% in maths can get 3 because some "sharks " somewhere got 100%. There's a % of students who get grade 1 in every subject depending on the highest score in each subject.

Look I got 9, the way I cried my heart out erh. My uncle asked me were I was when people got 8 😂😂. My mum had to console me ooo. I went to print my result with my teacher cos he stayed in my area. It was there he told me he expected me to get 14, that was what consoled me oo. That one kraa I was given my last choice.
