Edgerton, Wyoming exists because of oil. In the early 1920s, the Salt Creek Oil Field was booming. Thousands of people poured into this part of Wyoming for work, and entire communities sprang up around the industry. Edgerton was founded in 1923, right in the middle of it. But like so many boomtowns in the West, things changed fast. Oil production declined, workers moved on, and many of the camps and communities surrounding Salt Creek eventually disappeared altogether. Edgerton didn’t. More than 100 years later, it’s still here, along with neighboring Midwest, two surviving pieces of one of the biggest oil booms in Wyoming history. Today Edgerton is tiny, but that’s one of my favorite things about traveling around Wyoming. You can drive through a place that looks like a little dot on the map and have absolutely no idea how much history happened there. If you’re new here, hi, I’m Alexander! I travel all over Wyoming showing the places, history, homes, and lifestyle that make this state what it is. And if you’re looking to buy a home in Wyoming, reach out. I’d love to help you find the one. #WyomingIsReal #Wyoming #EdgertonWY #WyomingHistory
