الحسين بن مطير بن مكمل الأسدي، شاعر متقدم في القصيد والرجز، ومن مخضرمي الدولتين الأموية والعباسية، وله أماديح في رجال كلتا الدولتين. كان زيه وكلامه مثل زي أهل البادية وكلامهم. وفد على معن بن زائدة عندما ولي اليمن فمدحه، ولما مات معن رثاه. Al-Husayn ibn Mutayr ibn Mukammil al-Asadi was an accomplished poet in both qasida (classical Arabic ode) and rajaz poetry. He lived through the transition from the Umayyad to the Abbasid dynasty and composed praise poems for prominent figures of both periods. His appearance, manner, and speech reflected those of the Bedouins, resembling the traditional style and language of the desert Arabs. He visited Maʿn ibn Zaʾida when Maʿn was appointed governor of Yemen and composed poetry in his praise. When Maʿn later died, al-Husayn mourned him in elegiac verse.
