She also reveals how a simple message to creator Graham Yost unexpectedly led to the role. “I was actually a fan of season one and wrote to Graham... I was just admiring the show, I wasn’t trying to get a role or anything,” she says. “He called me and pitched me Helen’s entire storyline... and I immediately went to my agents and said, ‘Make it happen.’” Following the BAFTA-nominated success of her directorial short Bus Girl, she is carving out a voice behind the camera that is every bit as distinctive as the performances that have made her one of Britain’s most exciting talents.
