Ever since I was little—around 8 or 10 years old, I can’t quite remember anymore, it’s been so long—my brother and I had to rely on ourselves. That’s because we never really had a father. He was there, yet it felt like he wasn’t at all. Back then, from the time we were still small, Kuya and I would wander the streets, looking for anything we could sell—just so we’d have something to eat. Life was so hard. In those days, being able to buy snacks worth 10 pesos already made us so happy; at least we had something to share, right? Now, things look so different. We’re far from the kind of life we used to have—but deep down, nothing has really changed. It’s still all about sacrifice. Everything revolves around my younger siblings. When will they ever see me? When will they notice Kuya and me? It hurts so much inside. I feel left behind. Mama’s attention is always on the younger ones. She doesn’t see how much I’m struggling. She never even asks if I’m okay. But I keep it all inside—I never tell them how I truly feel. And even now, nothing has changed. It’s still the same.
