Say your building a house. Build time 6-8 months. 32 hours a week from 40. That’s an added two weeks. If they kept the 40+ and start overtime pay at 32. That’s more cost per hour for employer to pay. Consistent overtime through 3 seasons. The cost on a new build would be even more outrageous than it already is. That applies to all trades, services, goods, everything. Everyone wants cheaper goods and less time at work. But this isn’t it.
