The U.S. is too big and diverse for this comparison to work. This is New York minimalism. Los Angeles minimalism is more similar to summer Scandi looks, and Utah minimalism is a different thing altogether

First, if you’re going to examine American minimalism in fashion, you need to look at the rise of minimalism in American art and music starting in the 1960s (Donald Judd, Sol Witt, Philip Glass). It’s not just about removing what isn’t essential, but doing so to highlight form, structure, and materials. It’s also about anonymity over ego and providing calm in a chaotic world - themes that continue to increase in relevancy.

American minimalism is more like a trend it’s almost like cosplaying feels too “try hard”. Scandinavian minimalism feels authentic effortless yet chic it just feels timeless, more like it’s part of who they are. It’s more like an identity, and they’ll always have minimalism not just a trend.

i as a non american but also non european prefer the american minimalism because it seems more diverse than the scandinavian, unlike the scandinavian the american minimalism doesnt look almost like a uniform

Scandinavian minimalism really focuses a lot on being comfy and warm, we love wool and sweaters/sweatshirts/jeans. As you say American minimalism is very corporate friendly! Scandi minimalism can be that too but I feel it teeters more towards influencer/fashion blogger “corporate”?
