@sleepygoddess414: Tech and AI can be a huge beneficial tool with the elderly... if used correctly. I'd love @Jeanette Yates opinion on this! #ai #memorycare #redflag #alzheimers #dementia
Because I watch your content, I had gotten another creator speaking about dementia. She had mentioned the Jubilee TV. Have you heard of that one yet?

as a ltc CNA, ask about staff turn over rates, ask to talk to the CNAs and Nursing staff as well.

Hey there. Been loving your content. I have worked in healthcare for the last 15 years and five of those years. I was an admissions director for a dementia facility of 90 residence. You are doing a great job and asking all the right questions. Your mom is so lucky to have such a mindful advocate. You’re dead on about checking those staffing ratios. I love how you’re letting everyone know to just stop in, that’s super important. That person that is touring you is expecting you and she is walking ahead of you before you arrive to try to make sure everything is looking good and as it should be. When asking about staffing ratios, don’t forget to ask if the staffing ratios changed throughout the day and for overnight staff as those regulations can be different. Also be sure to ask the longevity of staff that works there and if they utilize temporary or contract, nurses/travel nurses. And dementia care, it’s very important for consistency and seeing a facility with long-standing employees is always a good sign. Best of luck to you, keep it up!

Ask the sales person you are meeting with what is the maximum shift schedule? I found out the girls are working 16 hour shifts where my mom is. That is not good.

You are absolutely right!!! I worked at a facility in NE it was so disgusting I brought my own cleaning supplies the second night of working there!!! The patient, aid ratio was 1:40!!! Come on!! That’s not even close to being manageable or appropriate!!! I left the third day!!!

I work per diem in a memory care facility that’s a glorified nursing home where they have no way to call for help no call lights no fall alerts nothing I work overnights and my ratio there is 1:18 they have a nurse overnight they know who’s sleeping so when I call for emergencies he takes up to an hour to respond I’ve had to make judgement calls that I shouldn’t have to make because that’s the nurses job and I’ve had to tell hospice patients I don’t have any pain meds for them while they cry in pain and ask for some because Mr nurse is cuddled up in the nurses office

In my state we now have “remote caregiving” for our clients. Just a camera and a caregiver that pops up “hi, did you take your meds today?” No way to know of that person did take their meds, bathe, get to a doctor appt…. It scares the hell of me as a social worker

you are absolutely correct. tech is wonderful where it belongs. it cannot take the place of human involvement. proactive prevention is vital. when I was a care provider I could tell way before an incident occurred by behaviors, tone of voice and general body language. I could intervene way in advance before issues arised. matter of fact that is a vital part in the training. can't do that by getting glimpses of people on a monitor.

Also, when you have to pay 💰 a fee up front to hold the spot, but they can still deny the loved one and do not offer any refund. Happened to my mom for care of my dad, she lost thousands.

Life in the Mundane-A Faeble✨ :
I worked as a cna for hospice for 5 years and went to multiple facilities, and I’d say the people to ask are the aides for word of mouth. The administration will always push the good aspects, but the aides are the ones most down to earth on the reality of staffing and quality of life for their patients, like activities and visitors

i would ask, when that fails in an outage/hacking/or other event, how do you manage real world care if you entire model revilves around depending on aps.

It's also important to ask what the staffing is overnight, not just during the day. Because if it's sparse during the day it's going to be skeletal at night. Also JoJo, you're such a loving caring daughter and I know your mom may not appreciate it, but we all know 💖

You might find out, (regardless of the ratio that you are quoted) that there are a lot more staff around during the day, than at night. Skeleton crew at night has become the norm.

YES! Tech is cool and definitely will help in elder care spaces, but you need nurses and staff more than fancy tech. 🙌 so glad you are able to move forward with your #1 pick. Best of luck!

I know lots of places that take care of people are already short staffed, the answer is definitely not to replace staff with technology 😭
even human interaction is a good thing for anyone in a care facility no matter what, if they lose that, they can lose their sense of being aware and it makes everything worst amd no way technology can make up for it

Opinions On The Eight :
So - I worked over a decade in memory care. If the facility is secure - we allowed the patients to have freedom to wander. If you suppress that behavior / other more aggressive behaviors, usually come out. So I would not be concerned about that. As the person who used to do all the tours, it was common for patients to come up to me all the time. Because I was a familiar face and when I wasn’t giving tours, I spent a lot of time with the residence. They wouldn’t remember my name but they remembered I was kind and left them with a good feeling

I DON'T like facilities. I took care of my mom at home. Luckily, I am barren & worked from home/unemployed. Plus the LMT training prepped me. It wasn't easy. I'm still recovering.
