And the craziest thing is that Joe Buck is a mid commentator. He does have some iconic calls tho

in esports we undercut the rest to get the gig & the companies like it cause they save money and its a rotational system where if u get to big the industry will screw u out basically

The NFL is one of the few sports/shows still holding a linear tv audience in the US and MNF is their biggest show of each year - it's a crazy sum of money, but him and his co-comm are basically the voice of it for 3ish hours a week, 60ish hours a year!

NFL money is do silly. The league with the second most revenue per match is the premiere league at 18.6 million euro, the NFL is first at 67.2 euro. My local Seattle Seahawks just got sold for 10 billion dollars, we are not a top 10 largest market that has an nfl team. The TV contracts are so big it is not possible to lose money as an owner.

Yeah, when there is consistent money in a scene and they want to keep a special talent who basically has been the face of the content they do that stuff ( don't know anything about this guy but speaking in general). I think back in esports prime (2018-2021) there was a lot of money being poured into the LEC that was from outside the scene and we couldn't hold on to it or find a way to make all of it profitable. We lived the good life but just like a lottery winner didnt think about the future. Now its too late for this kind of money to be present in the esports scene

So this can be a very long answer but I’ll try to keep it short. One of the main reason ESPN and all these networks pay big for commentators is to help them negotiate better broadcast deals. If you look up NFL broadcasts deals ESPN /ABC (2.7 billion) Fox (2.5 billion) CBS (2.1b billion) NBC (2 billion) Amazon (1 billion) YT TV (2 billion). Now imagine if Riot charged YouTube, Twitch, (insert website) to stream League matches. It would incentivize those platforms to put together the best casting/hosting talent they can and draw in as many viewers as they can so they can negotiate a lower fee with Riot. In the end everyone wins because the NFL is just so powerful in the U.S. it dominates every single year in total number of views. The most random game between two terrible teams will beat the Oscars, Grammys etc. unfortunately for E-Sports I don’t think numbers going up at all in fact it’s going down. (Or at least in NA anyways can’t speak for other regions)
