If these allegations are substantiated, they constitute a profoundly disquieting affront to the rule of law and demand unequivocal accountability. A land dispute, however protracted or contentious, cannot metamorphose into a justification for violence, intimidation, arbitrary arrests, or the coercive deployment of state security personnel against civilians. The alleged attacks, followed by door-to-door incursions and the arrest of male residents in the presence of the MP and uniformed security personnel, warrant an independent, transparent and impartial investigation. If any individual, political officeholder or security operative exceeded their lawful mandate, those responsible must be identified and held personally accountable, irrespective of their political stature or institutional affiliation. Questions of land ownership must be adjudicated through credible evidence, lawful processes and the appropriate judicial or traditional authorities, not through intimidation, collective punishment or the instrumentalisation of state power. The public deserves a clear account of what transpired: Who authorised the arrests? On what legal grounds were residents detained? Who participated in the alleged operation? And were the constitutional rights of those affected respected? If violations occurred, they must not be obscured by political influence or administrative silence. Accountability is not an optional embellishment of justice; it is an indispensable prerequisite for public confidence in the rule of law.
