@sharsharcheers: That little 10-cent logo on drinks in Singapore caught my attention because there’s actually a whole system behind it. I thought the idea was interesting, especially how such a small amount can change the way people think about returning a bottle. What do you think?
I think the gov hopes we forget about the 10 cents or are too lazy to bother. When many people do this, it stacks up and gets them a new income stream

my observation is consumers are paying more than 10c. after scheme is launched, I noticed for the same beverage from same shop, BCRS labelled becomes 20c - 30c (excluding the 10c deposit) more than non-BCRS labelled. and importers can not distribute non-labelled drinks, as such no longer cheaper drinks.

Manufacturers pay that tax first before the bottle or can is ever sold to the consumer. Then they pass the added cost to consumers much much much later and some of those bottles or cans won’t make it back to the machines. Same idea as some money will be left on membership cards forever, so kinda like an unused prepaid. At the end of the day it’s a tax. And it might get refunded.

We have this in Quebec Canada. People still don’t recycle but we have some people making some money doing this

why not they make it an incentive to gain 10 cents rather than use it as a punishment to get our deposit of 10cents

it will be good that more bottles/cans are recycled. however, it brings another question. recycling company has always feedback low recycling rate due to contamination, but now many people are digging/overturning bins/blue bins for bottles/cans, how is these not contaminated anymore.

The incentives are badly thought out. Will most sgeans care to save $0.10 per bottle when we are burning $100s a day on other form of taxes ? makes no sense to me and not worth the effort and time. if it was $1 returned per bottle then u will see a huge diff

It's sick that G uses legislation to force consumers to participate in their scheme, instead of making it a way of life. 👎

Finland has done this too. In fact in Finland, their larger bottles cost more like 30c. Its not something new. The larger concern is our Pulau Semakau is filling up and we need to do something about it. This might slow down the rate of filling up.
