There is a kind of caregiver anxiety that doesn’t always look like anxiety. Sometimes it looks like checking the same thing twice. Trying to remember whether the medication was given. Thinking about tomorrow while you’re still trying to finish today. Worrying about what could happen while everyone else is sleeping. Sitting down to rest—but your mind refuses to sit down with you. And because you’re still functioning, people may assume you’re okay. You cooked. You cleaned. You answered the phone. You handled the appointment. You took care of everybody. So from the outside, it looks like you’re managing. But managing and being okay are not always the same thing. After 17 years in caregiving, one lesson I’ve learned is this: Sometimes the person who looks the most capable is carrying far more than anyone realizes—because everybody has gotten used to watching them handle it. And eventually, even a capable person needs somewhere to put some of that weight. Support might mean asking another family member to take one responsibility. It might mean respite. It might mean talking to someone you trust. It might mean finally saying: “I can still care about you without carrying everything by myself.” You are not failing because caregiving feels heavy. It feels heavy because sometimes it IS heavy. caregiver check-in: Finish this sentence in the comments: “The thing I’m carrying quietly right now is ______.” You don't have to tell the whole story. Even one word is enough.💜 #FollowMeAcrossTheBridge #AssistedLiving #HealingForCaregivers
