@mojaveandwolf: I realized something while editing this video that somehow made the whole story even more profound to me. I’ve always said that when I was exiled from the church, I felt like I had been thrown into the desert and left there to die. And yet, looking back now, the Magdalene found me there almost immediately. Long before I understood what she would eventually mean to me. Long before I began studying her story, questioning what we’d been taught about her, or speaking about her publicly. I didn’t even know what the lyrics to this song meant. And somehow, there she was. Asilos Magdalena. I’ve spent twenty years thinking I simply loved this strange, beautiful Mars Volta song because something about it made my soul vibrate. Now I’m wondering if some part of me recognized something my conscious mind hadn’t caught up to yet. And maybe that’s the part of this whole ridiculous lost-band-shirt adventure that moved me the most. I thought I was telling you a story about music and intuition. Then I realized I was also telling you a story about the Magdalene finding me in the desert. She has never left my side since. What a profound thing to recognize twenty years later.
