Hi special education advocate here. your school district should be providing a device for your child, they should be responsible for replacing the device, they should also be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of said device along with paying for any apps that are needed for the device to help your son communicate. if you need any help writing up an email or how to ask for such a thing from your school district please DM me I will help you I have templates for it and everything.

I know HOW MUCH TIME it takes to customize an AAC device. Hold onto hope; see if it is insured. Also see if you can have the principal send an email to all family members about what happened and that the device is missing. Reach out to the superintendent. It can’t hurt!

nope! that's a medical device! if someone took it on school property, that is a school responsibility ans they have to replace it. ugh I hope you are able to get this figured out, im so sorry this is happening to you dear. I have my kiddos acc device location on.

The school is responsible and this isn't an electronic for games so this is way different. They are responsible to keep it safe as it is a medical device/accommodation. Please reach out to your districts isd advocate immediately! File a formal written complaint with the district, a police report and a home owners insurance claim. Then your insurance company will go after the school. Then speak with a board of education advocate that specializes in special education to obtain a lawyer. The school is treating it like a gaming device when it's not! It is a medical device just like an insulin pump. I am a nurse and a special education mom who faught my sons district and won. Keep fighting! You got this!

Deep breath. When you get it back, get an apple air tag and use resin to epoxy it to the case. If you don't get it back, make the report and then the school should put a claim on it through their insurance.

If you get an AAC through ABLENET they have such great customer service and will give a new one for free! Try to get one through ABLENET! 🫂

as a SPED teacher PLEASE FILE A POLICE REPORT!!! Negligence still needs to be held accountable someone took away his voice and don’t be scared to stay strong 💜 If it has happen to him it’s going to happen to someone else as scary as it is to say. Educator’s know the importance of keeping HEALTH CARE items stored safely.

A member of staff should be responsible for the device due to your son’s age and level of disability. Your son is not able to be responsible for the device himself. The staff did not take care of it, therefore the school is responsible for replacing it in a timely manner.
