This take is definitely not one I agree with. For a variety of reasons. For one thing, access to healthcare in the US is actually becoming an issue. In Rural communities certainly, which, 1. Not everyone can afford to up and move to a less rural area and 2. Rural areas provide us with a variety of consumables we rely on both for ourselves and for export. That we’re not helping these communities gain access to healthcare is a social failing on our countries art. We want what these people produce, but we don’t want the inconvenience of making it easier and healthier for them. But its also becoming an issue in more populous areas because there aren’t enough doctors and nurses. /Especially/ specialists. Where I live, there’s like a 2-ish year long wait list for just to get an appointment with a new GP. As for it being free…most people actually arguing for single payer healthcare are arguing for free at point of service. Meaning, you’re doctor still gets paid, just by taxes not insurance or out of pocket. Much the way medicaid functions, just for everyone. And if done correctly it would likely save the country money long term. It’d have to be implemented carefully (a lot of things would need to be overhauled, including dealing with medical school debt and enticing more potential doctors and nurses into field otherwise the access problem would get worse). But in order to do any of that the country as a whole would have to adjust priorities and start thinking long term.

Not only would universal healthcare benefit all of us it would ultimately save most money and result in a healthier population. Added benefit, no medical debt. And all of these people saying other countries universal healthcare is no good. 1. They have all figured it out but us. 2. Show me the country that is looking to go back to a system like we have. None of them. That’s the answer. The insurance lobby has convinced us that their for profit middle man companies making billions is better than us controlling our own healthcare

We should reallocate taxes collected to making health care free to the person at the time of service. We will pay in advance of and we will pay after the time of the service. We all understand that medical professionals and resources aren't free.

I drove one hour one way for radiation treatment mon-fri for 5 weeks throughout this last July (when gas was ridiculous). this was due to living rural. it is 100% a choice. I chose to live in the middle of nowhere.

universal Healthcare would save me over 10 thousand of dollars a year. between out of pocket and premiums we pay for a family between 15 to 25k a year. the bump in taxes would definitely be less than that

Single payer healthcare costs American more than universal heath care would. People having to go to the ER for strep throat and not pay the bill because its the only way to get medicine. Who do you think is paying that bill? I have had over 10k in hospital visits i never paid for. guess what I still bought my house and have a credit score in the 700s you know who paid for the care I received? You because instead of that ibuprofen you got costing 5 cents it bills your insurance 200 bucks for it. So when you havent met your deductible for the year you are directly paying out of pocket for other peoples care.

Our current system has a ton of people using the emergency room and never paying anything in to the system. EMTALA forces hospitals to care for these people even if they can’t or won’t pay. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a universal system where everyone has to pay in?……

Websters: Access: freedom or ability to obtain or make use of something. Not being able to afford it, is a lack of ability. A lack of ability to obtain means it is not accessible. So if somebody cannot afford healthcare, healthcare is not accessible to them.

And all of those people get paid in every developed country on the planet. This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Also, it has been shown over and over that taxes go up a bit, but then we don't have to pay premiums and deductibles and copays etc. You're basically saying "No, I don't want to pay $1000 in taxes for healthcare, I'd rather pay $15000 to an insurance company."

Medicare for all. We’re long over due for it. Bernie sanders has the entire proposal on his website on how it works work and be paid for. If we can afford to build bombs, we can afford housing first and medical care for ALL.

Yeah yours is an unpopular opinion. No we don’t all have access to healthcare. Majority of Americans cannot afford healthcare, therefore limiting access to classes of people. No one has ever expected healthcare workers to work for free. We pay a lot of taxes that gets squandered and laundered by our corrupt government. It is possible to have healthcare for all but that would require to clean up house.

Literally nobody wants healthcare workers to work for free. Nobody is making that argument. Healthcare should be FREE AT THE POINT OF ACCESS and paid for via taxes. Every other developed country has figured out a way to take care of it without bankrupting people. You aren’t arguing in good faith if you think people don’t know that healthcare workers need to be paid, you’re being pedantic. Firefighters and police get paid, and I don’t get anything but a tax bill for those services.
