@mythicmeebo: I will always be an asexual lesbian. I have 0 attraction to men. Trying to force me into a label that doesn’t fit me at all doesn’t say shit about me. Sick of yall. #lesbian #wlw #asexual #fictosexuality #lgbtq

literallyyy. this whole argument is so dumb .. why would pixels change your entire orientation? i have legit only found myself crushing on two fictional men that come to mind - one is pretty androgynous & the other is a robot 😭 i have never looked twice at a man irl. it’s funny how lesbians are held to such strict standards when i have seen gay guys say the wildest shit abt female characters & no one says anything 💔 it’s just such a nothing burger debate

i’ve been trying to explain this to people for years. i will never date or be with a man in any sexual capacity. but do I enjoy a well written MMC? absolutely!

Adding one more comment, I think it’s a lot easier for me to understand this concept because I’ve known multiple lesbians in my real life who sometimes had crushes on either fictional male characters or even male celebrities. But they only dated and looked to date women in real life. It wasn’t a foreign concept to me and one of my friends once explained to me that they were secure enough in their sexuality to allow themselves the freedom to do that. Maybe some people need to stop being so rigid and go meet other queer people irl…

This! Also this discourse doesn’t exist irl. Most lesbian friends of mine irl like fictional men like me. I am NOT bisexual and I never will be. But when it’s a straight man or woman liking a fictional man or woman, it’s crickets.

This was the one thing holding me back from identifying as a lesbian. I finally just decided to identify for myself, and as a 27 year old who came out late and never had sexual experience with men, I finally am being honest with myself about who I’m attracted to in real life. I spent most of my childhood/teen years identifying as ace or pan. There’s more I can say about the complexities of the fictional characters we can become attached to but I’ll leave it at that🙏✨

I legit think people who claim it invalidates your lesbianism can only be disingenuous. they can understand being attracted to a character you wouldnt get along with irl bc they arent real & your brain knows that. theres no reason it wouldn't apply to sexuality too

I dont know what it is but this video made something click for me like so much. Ive always been attracted to men and trans mascs like my WHOLE life but for some reason i called myself bi/pan because i like women characters here and there in media. I have always struggled with intimacy because of how i striggled with sttraction and how I am "supposed to act". This video made me realize im on the ace spectrum with fictosexuality and homoromantic 😭😭😭 my wife (trans masc) at least has been super supportive of this exploration of myself. Idk what it is but the comments and something just. Clicked.

but a straight man can watch and enjoy heated rivalry with his gf and that’s a display of security in his manhood and sexuality 🫩

Also obviously I can’t claim this as a fact because I haven’t studied or looked it up but I feel like a lot of people (especially if you can separate reality from fiction) don’t see fictional characters as gendered especially drawn characters. Like people are still lesbian if they’re more masculine presenting or attracted to masculine presenting women or trans women that don’t “pass” or don’t pass as well as others. I mean technically since fictional characters aren’t real and can’t have a gender the same way a real person does these people are judging someone’s attraction how masculine or feminine a character is. But I have a feeling the people saying this to lesbians aren’t all that supportive of different gender expressions to begin with

this whole discourse gave me such an identity crisis that I stopped calling myself a lesbian and just call myself an asexual that likes girls or sapphic. I'm autistic and had trouble understanding what sexual attraction even is for a while, I'm not even sure if I did the cartoon man crush thing right because I always imagined it in third person, shipping with other characters or ocs so I'm not even sure anymore if it was me being attracted towards the character or me just enjoying an erotic fantasy from the point of the watcher instead the participant.

I def agree with this. Not only is the MMC not a real person but the “me” that is experiencing that MMC isn’t either at that point. It’s some combination of me and my identification with whoever the main character is.

I hate how much people invalidate us as lesbians 😭 and it’s almost ALWAYS people in our own community (bisexuals, etc). Like why can’t people just understand that we as LESBIANS canNOT be attracted to MEN. REAL MEN. Fictional characters? Sure. But when the topic is REAL LIFE MEN. No, absolutely not. I’m so tired ☹️

i agree. as someone who identified as a lesbian but came to terms with the fact that i feel more comfortable with being unlabeled (bec personally, i don't like being categorized - ofc, respect to those who do), my opinion might not really matter here, but i've hung out on lesbian tiktok some bec it intersects with wlw tiktok a lot, and some of the discourse lately has kinda sounded a bit like "if you say that you're a lesbian and have crushes on fictional man characters you're just bi and also biphobic and lesbophobic"

your brain can change things in wild ways when you'd never do it in real life. When reality hits, that changes things. (but sadly this has 100% been used against aroace people)

its like for me, Im obsessed with a male celeb, im not attracted to him and I js think hes pretty in a feminine way tbh, but so many times ppl accuse me of liking men because I like male celebs. I am REPLUSED by the idea of dating or having intercourse with a man, and I ONLY would ever date a woman or non binary person. its like they want me to say im a bisexual who only likes women

I was seeing some of that discourse and while I am a pansexual Demi/gray ace person myself, let me throw something else. So when gay men go off and talk about how pretty certain women are, and especially female celebrities, and let me tell you it happens OFTEN… nobody bats an eye. There’s a gay male celeb I follow who played a romantic interest opposite Lady Gaga on TV once and he’s talked about how that was a highlight of his career. In real life, again, he’s gay and has a husband. But when lesbians have crushes on FICTIONAL male characters, they get judged and aren’t actual lesbians?
