Why Specialized? This is my story. 👸🏼 Well, first of all… the bikes. 💁🏼‍♀️ They have given me a voice and made me, unapologetically me. I feel like I’ve grown up with the brand. I’ve raced them, won on them, crashed them, cried on them, ridden them very fast and very slowly, and taken them on some amazing adventures around the world. The bike has introduced me to my people and allowed me to build community and connection. Entering a decade together, #whyspecialized? It is so much more than the bikes. It’s the people. And what they’re willing to care about. Years ago, I found myself sitting in a room at @Specialized Bicycles talking very openly about something female cyclists had mostly been expected to quietly endure: saddle pain, numbness and all the other things nobody particularly wanted to say out loud. So naturally, I said them out loud like my unfiltered self.😂 Worth it. Because those uncomfortable conversations helped lead to products like Mimic and, later, Mirror. And to much bigger conversations about designing for actual humans and their actual anatomy. That mattered to me and the product development in the bikes has been incredible. We have launched so many bikes! And then there’s Outride. This year in Patagonia alongside Fireflies Patagonia, we walked into a rural school with bikes and helmets for kids who were VERY ready to ride. We talked about brains and bikes, learned how to fit helmets, rode around the school yard and laughed a lot. It was one of my favorite days of the entire year. Because getting more people on bikes doesn’t always mean making the fastest bike. Sometimes it means making a saddle that helps a woman stay on hers. Sometimes it means an e-bike that makes riding possible for someone who didn’t think it was. Sometimes it’s giving a kid a helmet, a little confidence and a reason to discover what two wheels can do. And yes, sometimes it means making a really freaking fast bike. I’m proud of the races we’ve won together. But I’m probably more proud of the things we’ve worked on that never show up on a results sheet. Ten years later, I’m still here. And that, to me, is Why Specialized. #iamspecialized ❤️
