It IS easy not to call a six-year-old stupid because you had a bad day.   Yes, parents are still allowed to be imperfect, and a caregiver might be carrying trauma, grief, chronic stress, financial pressure, or living with little to no support. Those conditions make regulation harder and raise the odds of harm. They also don't change where the responsibility sits. A parent's trauma explains why regulation is difficult, and a child is still an unacceptable target for that dysregulation. A single harmful moment can be followed by accountability and real change, and the impact still counts. A recurring pattern looks different.
