She had broken up with him and had moved on to a new relationship. Her new boyfriend called to let her know he was coming to visit, only to arrive and find her lifeless. Gaudencia Amwayi, 23, lived alone in a small bedsitter at Sucos Estate in Isinya, Kajiado East. The relationship with her previous partner, a 30-year-old man who stayed in Malaa along Kangundo Road, had ended months earlier. According to her sister Merab, the breakup did not bring peace, the man insisted it was either him with her or no one else. He kept contacting her. The messages and calls carried threats. Amwayi moved on. By July 2026 she had been seeing a new partner for nearly a year. On the evening of Wednesday, 15 July, the new boyfriend arranged to visit. He told her he was coming. She stopped answering his calls. When he reached the bedsitter he knocked several times. Silence. He pushed the door open. Amwayi’s body lay on the floor. The room showed no signs of a struggle. No overturned furniture. No broken objects. He called the police. Officers from Isinya arrived, secured the scene and moved the body to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital Mortuary. For five days the cause of death remained officially unconfirmed. On Monday, 20 July, pathologist Dr Joseph Ndegwa conducted the post-mortem. The findings were precise: manual strangulation. Bruises marked the neck. There were no defensive injuries on her hands or arms. She had been attacked without the chance to fight back. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations treated the case as a suspected femicide. Everything pointed to one person. The former boyfriend. A manhunt began. Over the weekend officers tracked him to a hideout in Malaa. He was arrested and held at Isinya. Isinya Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Wanga Masake confirmed the 30-year-old was in custody as the prime suspect. Police said they would seek additional time in court to complete investigations. Merab spoke briefly after the autopsy. She said her sister had told her about the threats in the weeks before. “The end of a relationship should not be enmity,” she said. What happened in the hours between the last unanswered call and the discovery of the body remains known only to the investigation and the suspect. No final conviction or acquittal has been reported in the case so far. Please Follow
