Oh I see you’re familiar with travel hockey 🤣. Sadly I’m learning it’s the same with all these pay to play sports. At the moment my kid is happy to do the three practices a week + weekend games and cross country travel. If she stops liking it, I certainly won’t be paying anymore.

Travel clubs have ruined sports- our son stayed in rec leagues and plays on the varsity team as a sophomore- don’t buy into the hype!

I know several schools that if your child didn’t play travel ball, they wouldn’t make the team. Period. It’s all gotten ridiculous

Thank you for this post! Already feeling the pressure for my SEVEN year old! I just want him to continue to love sports without getting burnt out. Also very difficult when you have multiple kids who would all have to make sacrifices. Guess we'll stay in rec league💓

My son made the competitive futbal team this year. Just for joining it cost us $1400. Then we had $500 for uniforms. Then fees to pay the coaches and who knows what else - another $400. We are in little Ocala in Fl and there just isn’t really much opportunity outside of club. He is 13 and they have grown him so much already but ugh the money 😭

My daughter has played soccer since she was maybe 4. She’s now almost 18. The time and money that we have paid over all of these years (she plays club) could pay off our mortgage! Yes, we were in Arizona earlier this year (we live in Indiana), and she’s been to Florida, Texas, North Carolina, etc. She did get a soccer scholarship, and maybe I’ll miss this eventually, but not paying all of this money one day will be nice. She goes from High School soccer to club. Never lets up.

My 6 year old son is in gymnastics. He loves it, but it’s expensive and he was quickly moved from rec to “preteam” his coach is an ex Olympian. It’s exhausting

That’s what happens here in Florida with baseball. At 13 you can no longer play rec, you have to play travel and my son doesn’t want travel to play in tournaments every weekend out of town so therefore he has no where to play.
