@goatcult.media: On November 28, 2023, Baldwin County deputies responded to a home in Georgia after an aunt became concerned that her 33-year-old niece was being held there against her will. When officers arrived, they noticed a strong odor coming from a locked bedroom. Bobbie Jo Barber, the victim’s sister, confirmed she was inside. When deputies were finally able to see into the room, they found the woman curled in a fetal position in a chair, severely malnourished and living in extremely poor conditions. Investigators later alleged that while under the defendants’ supervision, she had been deprived of necessary food and care to the point that her health and well-being were put at risk. Following an investigation, Bobbie Jo Barber and Jerry Kenneth Barber were indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury. Each faced five counts, including false imprisonment and multiple charges involving the neglect, exploitation and intimidation of a disabled or elder adult.
