It’s because if we fail we go homeless and loose our livelihood. Punishment for basic crime is huge, loosing money means loosing a house, a car, ability to live on their own. There’s no social safety nets.

gen z have also lived in a surveillance state of sorts. if they make a mistake, it's on camera somewhere and so many people post it up and drag them through the mud for it. it's the same reason why gen z don't dance at parties/clubs. taking those risks also get back to a workplace and future employment. a lot of employers look at public social media accounts too. gen z is risk adverse because making regular mistakes that everyone else had the grace of making costs them a lot more than generations prior to them.

Gen Z doesn't have the luxury of failure, not to mention being raised as the first generation to have it worse than their parents/grandparents for the first time in human history. I've done everything right, I've been able to nearly double my income in the last 6 years and I still can't afford to eat everyday despite not spending money on anything that isn't an absolute necessity. We are wage slaves and rising inflation and a failing economy that's already crushing small businesses isn't the best time to "be your own boss" we're all already working 2 jobs, selling stuff online, have side hustles and still living hand to mouth. If you think that isn't the case you need to wake up.

don’t want gambling debt. don’t want addictions. don’t want to sell my soul to own a house. don’t want to work to death to pay for a wedding. to meet many of these milestones you need to make a lot more money than you would’ve needed to 30 years ago.
