Space has been militarised since the 60s, when the Soviet Union first deployed the Istrebitel Sputnikov programme, which consisted of kamikaze satellites designed to detonate in the paths of enemy satellites. Nowadays, things have changed; most military satellites are designed solely for reconnaissance and to guide military hardware.
