The fact the GF said "she was trying to treat him like an adult" seems like she looks down on the hobby the brother clearly enjoys. Clearly she recognizes his love for building Lego sets, but seems to consider it childish and doesn't want him to continue.

there had to be other stuff that was happening in that relationship and the way she talked to his sister was the final straw. He did say that he could forgive a lot including her not liking his hobbies. So what ever else she was doing probably felt small and was building into something where he would have broken up with her eventually but the was she was talking to his sister was the breaking point instead of something worse
