So, one golden autumn afternoon, he picked up his tiny lantern and set off to explore a trail he had never seen before. The forest was quiet and beautiful. Leaves floated lazily from the branches, dancing in the warm autumn breeze before settling softly upon the path. Emberwick listened to the whisper of the trees, the rustle of the leaves beneath his tiny feet, and, honestly, it was eerily quiet. More than it had been before. His lantern glowed warmly, even though the sun still shone through the golden canopy. “Perhaps this trail has a secret,” Emberwick thought. He continued onward. And then, quite unexpectedly, the trail divided into two. Emberwick stopped. The path to the left lead to several cottages Emberwick had never seen before. The path to the right wound deeper into the blue-shadowed forest, where tiny points of warm light seemed to twinkle between the trees. Emberwick could not decide which way to go. Should he go visit the cottages or walk through the unknown? Perhaps the forest hadn't brought him here by accident. Perhaps one of these paths was waiting just for him.
