9-6 is crazy hours as a parent. I work 7-3 and send my kid to daycare so I can just drop off and pick up myself 🤷🏻♀️

We have 4 kids it’s cheaper for me to not work 😅 we will loose money if i work and that’s hard for people to understand apparently

I don’t have kids but I think about constantly how much better traffic would be if people who are working & the schools weren’t happening at the same time 😭

lawyer in nyc here - we all have babysitters / nannies. childcare for one child costs twice what my law school did.

Only thing I can think of as a nyc nanny is have your nanny do things that can help your own load to make it worth it. Ie, clean, cook (for you and husband!), errands so that when you get home there isn't any of that bs you have to do

I once posted (and deleted) about this bc the internet trolls love this topic and telling moms they shouldn’t have had kids they can’t take care of. Happy to see those people aren’t in these comments. It really makes no sense and it’s so hard!! We pay for pre/after care but my kids also don’t want to be at school longer than their friends but we have no choice 😭

SLP who works in a school. Same district as my kids. Both sets of grandparents are 5 minutes away. I’m honestly not sure what I would do!! But somehow we always seem to figure it out

I think changing hours from either 9-5 or better 8-4 so you can do the afternoon pick up

Coming from a nanny who’s talked about it with sooo many other Nanny’s/parents maybe have your nanny do things around the house / run errands while your kids at school, but ik this is so expensive corporate hours need to change 😭

I ended up only taking work I can do from home. I have two kids and I do all of the work of a stay at home mom, plus a full time job. I am exhausted.

We just hired 2 new workers at my job snd they’re both young moms. One of them told her manager, “ My son gets on the bus @ 10 so I can’t work before 11”. Manager goes, “ I wish I knew that”. 1st of all, any parents need to disclose their kid’s schedules in the job interview, yes it’s ridiculous

We do the same as you. We have nannies or babysitters pick up our child and watch her until we get home, but I've either heard people use babysitters to fill the gap or some people literally have nannies until their kids are in high school. 😳

Ya I had to switch to part time. My son’s 2nd grade gets out at 2 and then 3 out of 5 days he goes to activities.
