So this is going my dnd as vampire lore. There’s now going to a vampire plague doctor that practices a version of blood letting that is just, knocking the “patient” unconscious, sucking out the disease and healing the host

they are not commensal. they are symbiotic vampire. in exchange of nutrient, the immune system back up the immune system of the tree. allowing it to resist disease more easily. a commensal relation. benefit's one but not the other. a symbiotic relation benefit's both. it's like they trade a bit of nutrient for extra protection.

i think people forget plants are creatures too. they only see plants as objects because they grow slowly and don't move like animals do. that's why they are so surprised when plants have a genetic mutation, or anything similar

This kind of reminds me how sometimes when a tree is cut down surrounding trees will help support the stump as it tries to regrow sprouts

scientist don't know why acting like they forget that a whole ecosystem of a forest is always connected to one another and a plant can co-exist even though they are parasite because one way or another have it's own benefit not to the individual plant but mostly to every other things in the forest.

its not albinism but it is really cool. it happens very often with old variegated plants, the greenhouse where i work has quite a few variegated pelargoniums that consistently put out full white shoots
