The Ethiopian ruler, known as the Negus (Najashi), provided them protection. Ethiopia is also famous for its resistance to European colonialism. In 1896, Ethiopian forces defeated Italy at the Battle of Adwa, a historic victory that became a powerful symbol of African independence and resistance. Ethiopia was also among the founding states of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which later became the African Union (AU). 🇪🇹 Ethiopia is a land of ancient history, cultural diversity, faith, resilience, and African independence. ❤️💚💛

Me screaming Ethiopia from all my PTSD memory... How do I know that? Because one passport from Ethiopia with someone born in 13th month blocked the entire airport software used for scanning and identifying passports. And it was my shift to get the call at 3am and try to fix that bug, because somehow nobody put Ethiopia calendar in the date recognition rules 😅

New Zealand does have a 13 month calendar (sometimes) under Maramataka (traditional Māori Lunar Calendar). For some groups, a 13th month would be added every 3 years to re-align to the seasons.

Israel has a 13 month calendar, though not every year. To keep the lunar calendar aligned(ish) with the Gregorian calendar, a second month of Adar is added every few years.
