@scrippsnews: A high school gym class policy in metro Detroit is facing scrutiny after parents raised concerns about a requirement that female students disclose personal health information, like the length of their menstrual cycle, to make up missed swimming classes. One father says he was stunned by the language in the syllabus and is now questioning whether the policy crosses a privacy line.
“I can’t swim this week” “okay” only conversation that should be had

This happened to my school. All of the girls refused to dress for the pool and sat on the bleachers until class was over. It was quiet and powerful. It worked

If the whole point is that they want students to make up missed swim days, then why not just make a blanket rule that if you miss a day, you have to make it up? Why do they need to know the reason?

I think my response would be that the suspected length is the entire school year. There is absolutely no way I am giving them access to that kind of information.

My young daughters was not allowed to use tampons till they were almost senior in school . Not happening. My daughters my rules. And it’s not the teachers or school right to have that information it’s a private matter.

The school cannot request that information. The only time anyone should be asking a person that type of information is at a doctors office.

In high school my PE teacher was going to fail me because other students used tampons and I did not want to. My mom called my doctor because the school said I would need a doctors note, apparently my doctor was so mad and made such a scene, they changed the school wide policy having to do with periods and swim days.

I'm a grown woman and still won't swim on my period. It's uncomfortable and embarrassing to me if I were to see my blood in the pool. imagine how a teenager would feel at that age when appearance is important to them
